Marc Jacobs - Taking it back...

I HEART MJ

I have always been a fan of fashion designer Marc Jacobs and I was delighted to stumble upon some of my old Marc Jacobs illustrations. These date back to 2001 SS collections, enjoy!

And inspired by the SS11 collection

Yves Saint Laurent Gardens - Majorelle, Marrakesh

Today I want to be here...

Morocco, especially Marrakesh hold fond memories for me. Vibrance, inspiration, colour and spirituality...

The gardens were established by French artist Jacques Majorelle who settled in Marrakesh in 1919 and in 1947 opened the doors of his garden to the general public. After his death in 1962 the gardens were for a while neglected, but in 1980 they were bought by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, and restored to their former glory.

Yves Saint Laurent always considered Morocco, and Marrakech in particular, his true home. Over the course of his adult life, he always maintained a second residence near the start of the Sahara and took refuge in Marrakech. After Yves Saint Laurent died in 2008 his ashes were scattered here, a clear sign of his affection for the gardens. At the centre of what is in fact quite a small space is Majorelle’s former workshop and Saint Laurent’s studio, painted in the same shade of blue and now home to the small museum of Islamic Art.
